Trinidad and Tobago
Beginning production in 1918, Caroni was the state distillery of Trinidad. It had access to its own sugar refinery that guaranteed its supply of local cane sugar.

The distillery produced “heavy rums” with an individual and noteworthy style until 2002.
Only rarely producing bottlings under its own label, for a long time the distillery remained known only to a handful of connoisseurs, which gave it a mythical status further enhanced by its closure in 2002 by the Trinidadian government.
In 2004, Luca Gargano, chairman of Velier, discovered the hundreds of casks stored in the distillery’s warehouse. This led to Velier initially acquiring a portion of the stock, followed by further acquisitions through the partnership with La Maison du Whisky. More than 80 bottlings were released and are now among the rarest and most collectible rums in the world.

The previous bottling series called the Caroni Employees series, was launched to honour the men and women who worked at the distillery. Now, the Caroni Paradise collection bottlings have been aged in Trinidad and Tobago and / or Guyana, before being transferred in damejeanne to continue its maturation in the Cognac region, hence the name “Paradise”.
Each label is illustrated with acrylic paintings by Che Lovelace, born in 1969 in Trinidad and Tobago. The artist presents a series of works featuring abstract landscapes, still lifes and portraits, set amidst scenes of Caribbean life.
